“Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst. But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God,”
I was reminded today that we serve a God who has a sense of humor. How else could 90 year old Sarah give birth to son, and 100 year old Abraham be his father! As I continued to think about God’s character, my mind kept replaying the truth that we also serve a jealous God. God is so zealous for us that once we belong to Him by professing our faith in Jesus Christ as Savior & Lord, our Heavenly Father is never satisfied with nothing less than our entire heart, mind, soul, worship, and service. Scripture tells us that we are to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, but when we allow the world and its system of philosophy to control our hearts, souls, and minds, God then becomes a jealous God. It was true for the Israelites when Moses wrote the scripture passage above, and it is true for the Christian in 2021.
May we fulfill the New Testament admonition by the apostle Paul to the church at Rome when he commanded them to not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove God’s good, acceptable, and perfect will.
Have a blessed day,
Pastor Greg
