Truth: Refuge – Psalm 91:4_Psalm 17:8

    “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge;”

    Daily living is often filled with unexpected dangers.  We never know what lies ahead as we begin each new day.  However, as Christians, we have the assurance that God is our Protector and in absolute control of every detail of our lives, whether good or bad.

    William Cushing was a pastor in the second half of the 19th century.  Tragically, William had completely lost the ability to use his voice near the end of the century.  Broken in spirit, he cried out to God with the words of the psalmist, “Hide me under the shadow of Your wings” (Psalm 17:8).  God answered by giving him the gift of writing which renewed his spirit & purpose.  William Cushing wrote more than 300 gospel hymns, one of which was titled, Under His Wings.

Under His wings I am safely abiding; tho the night deepens and tempests are wild,

Still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me; He has redeemed me, and I am His child.

Under His wings, O what precious enjoyment! There will I hide till life’s trials are o’er;

Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me; resting in Jesus I’m safe evermore.

Refrain: Under His wings, under His wings, who from His love can sever?

              Under His wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever.
