Truth: Looking Ahead – Philippians 3:12-13

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.

As believers, we must realize that we still have our journey in front of us. We have not arrived at our destination…therefore; we must continue to press on. I pray we never think that we don't need to grow anymore, study anymore, or increase in Christ anymore.

It is like the true story of a young lady who had just finished college and was talking to Albert Einstein at a dinner party. She asked, “What is it exactly that you do?” Einstein looked at her and said, “I've devoted my life to the study of physics.” And in shock she replied, “Studying physics at your age? I finished my studies a year ago!”

Unfortunately, that is the attitude some Christians have about their spiritual growth. They think because their salvation is settled in Christ, they too can settle on the couch. Church, we must understand that we have not yet arrived. We must join the apostle Paul in declaring that we are not “already perfected.” Our maturity in Christ will only be complete when we meet Him in glory.

Have a blessed day,

Pastor Greg
