Truth: “Born Again” John 3:3

Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God .

Being “born” by definition, is a passive act. The unborn child contributes nothing to the delivery. The mother is the one who exerts the effort, pushes, agonizes, delivers the newborn, and pays the price of birth. She doesn't enlist the child's assistance or advice.

Another important aspect of this passage is the word “again.” The Greek word for the word, again, is anothen which depicts a repeated action, but requires the original source to repeat it. It literally means “from above or a higher place; things which come from heaven or God.” In other words, the One who gives life in the physical realm has the power and ability to do it again or repeat giving life in the spiritual realm.

Jesus wanted Nicodemus, a Pharisee who was an expert in the law, to understand that the One who originally gave him life was the One who possessed the power and ability to give life again spiritually. No law or attempt to obey such laws can transform one’s life from spiritual death into life…only Jesus has such power & authority. Today's passage is a timeless truth concerning salvation which is meant to be shared with all generations. Pray for an opportunity this day to share the good news about Jesus.

Have a blessed day,

Pastor Greg
