1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
The word temptation in this verse also means test or trial. We understand the Lord does not tempt mankind (James 1:13), but does allow the enemy to tempt us as a way of testing our faith. God desires that we know the fidelity of our faith or the lack thereof. With that in mind, here are a couple of truths from our scripture passage to encourage you today.
- Whatever test, trial, or temptation you are facing today, it is “common to man.” That means that you are not the only one who has gone through whatever you are facing. It is comforting to know that others have faced similar problems before us and made it through. Sometimes we allow our trials to consume us to the point that our focus is drawn away from God…this can lead to certain distress. Just ask Peter who took his eyes off of Jesus while walking on water!
- God makes “the way of escape” along with the trial or temptation. That means you’re not stuck without any hope of overcoming the situation you have to face in life. Before your difficulty ever arose, God designed a way of escape, and that avenue accompanies every temptation or trial. Therefore, we are responsible to seek out & identify God’s grace & supply for our every need. Just as Jesus instructed us in Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Church, may we trust God to guide & garrison our steps safely through and out of every difficulty; whether it be a temptation, trial, or test.
Have a blessed day,
