“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.“
Walking in the Spirit implies at least 3 things. First, it's not passive. We're talking about walking in the Spirit, not sitting in the Spirit. One of the most dangerous and harmful obstacles to our spiritual growth is passivity. Sitting back and waiting for God to do everything is not God's way to spiritual maturity. Being a disciple requires discipline & devotion.
Second, it's not punishing. We're talking about walking in the spirit, not running in the Spirit. The Spirit-filled life is not achieved through endless, exhausting activity. We wrongly think that the harder we work for God, the more spiritual we will become. That's a subtle lie from the enemy. Satan knows that he can hinder our devotion to God by simply making our lives too busy with the cares of this life.
Lastly, it's not personal. We're talking about walking in the Spirit, not walking in the flesh. Paul said he could do all things through Christ who strengthens him. It is not our power, but the power of the Holy Spirit within us & working through us. Therefore, let us walk according to the Spirit each day at HIs pace & with His power.
