7 prayers of petition from Psalm 119

Before we open God’s Word, we should take the time to petition Him in the following 7 areas:

1. Ask God to Teach us His word (v.12).
   “Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes.”
2. Ask God to Reveal to us His word (v.19).
   “I am a stranger in the earth; do not hide Your commandments from me.”
3. Ask God to Help us Understand His word (v.27).
   “Make me understand the way of Your precepts; so shall I meditate on Your wonderful works.”
4. Ask God to Help us Desire His word (v.36).
   “Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness.”
5. Ask God to Renew our commitment to His word (v.88).
   “Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, so that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.”
6. Ask God to Help us Live Out His word (v.133).
   “Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.”
7. Ask God to Help us Memorize His word (v.176).
   “I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant, for I do not forget Your commandments.”
