Some things that God counts:
- Every little sparrow
- Luke 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God.
- The hairs on your head
- Matthew 10:30 but the very hairs on your head are numbered
- Your days
- Psalm 139:16 All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
- Your tossings at night (worries, sorrows, things that cause stress)
- Psalm 56:8 You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?
- Your tears
- Psalm 56:8
- Your steps
- Job 14:16 “For then you would number my steps; you would not keep watch over my sin” (speaks of forgiveness that can be found! )
- Things God does NOT count:
- The stars
- Psalm 147:4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
- The sins of those reconciled to Him (our choice “to be or not to be” please “be.”)
- Romans 4:7-8 – blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his transgressions
- Things God counts differently when we are His:
- The penalty of our sin
- Isaiah 53:12b “…because he poured out his soul to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.”
- Things too infinite for us to count (God still knows the tally!)
- Each grain of sand on every shore
- God’s thoughts of GOOD toward us
- Psalm 139:17-18-How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand…..
- Because of all this, and more, this is how I now count:
- “Indeed, I count everything (else) as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord”
- Philippians 3:8 Encouragement to keep it all in perspective, keep fighting the good fight…don’t allow things that count for nothing distract from things that count for everything. This life is short, live for what counts!
