Truth: Faith as a Mustard Seed Matthew 17:20

I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

The gravitational energy of the whole earth is estimated to amount to only a millionth of one horsepower. A toy magnet in the hands of a child can be thousands of times stronger, but what gravity lacks in brawn it makes up in tenacity. Its constant attraction keeps the moon orbiting the earth, the planets revolving around the sun, and the sun along with a billion other stars rotating around the center of our galaxy like a cosmic pinwheel.

Our passage for today relates Jesus’ desire for His disciples to understand just how effective & impactful their faith could be for the kingdom of God. Just like the earth’s small but continual amount of gravitational energy has the power to keep the moon orbiting the earth, we too can possess the power of God in our lives to do the unimaginable if we possess a mustard seed-like faith.

The mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds on the earth (no bigger that a millimeter in diameter) but becomes the largest of all the garden plants. So large in fact that its branches are big enough for birds to build their nests on them & find shelter under them (Mark 4:31-32). Jesus’ teaching is clear: our measure of faith should always be placed in none other than Jesus Himself. When we do, the power of God in our lives will produce results beyond belief!

Have a blessed day,

Pastor Greg
